I seem to be scoring cheap basses lately. Earlier in the year, I got a Danelectro Rumor for $60. Not a particularly sought after model, but still a good deal, and currently my main player. Today, while browsing CL, I saw something that looked too good to be true; a bass and amp listed for $20. The amp was a Peavey Micro Bass practice combo, but the bass was an '83 Ibanez Roadstar ii. I jumped on the ad, and while it might seem foolish to ya'll, I actually offered the guy more than his asking price if he was willing to hold it for me. He agreed, and I picked up the stuff earlier tonight. He also included a cable and gig bag. I get the bass home and the strings were totally detuned and corroded. This worried me a bit, but I'm happy to report that once tuned up and the action tweaked, the bass plays like a dream. It's also a tone machine. I didn't realize it when I initially reached out, but this is a medium scale bass. The amp also sounds excellent. It's obviously limited, but it has some real low end heft to it. Also, it seems like a Dimarzio Model P was added at some point in the past. The best part: I paid $50 for everything.
