While working on a trade deal and looking at some vintage Fenders, Scott at Chicago Music Exchange did a fair amount of bragging about this bass. He’s awesome to work with and CME has moved to the top of my list... check them out. I digress. I liked that it was an unusual pickup configuration and I wanted a maple fretboard. So, I took a shot. In the process of researching Mayones Basses, I found a post by. @Dr. Cheese with a video of this very bass. Apparently it was a NAMM bass that CME purchased. Still, all the way to Chicago, I was skeptical. For this price range, I have serious expectations. Tone being chief among them, but quality of construction, attention to details, and features also are very high on the list. Well, this bass exceeded all expectations. Surprisingly light. Fit and finish is incredible. The neck! Holy cow that charcoal etched looking deal is one of the smoothest things I’ve ever touched. Fretboard is flat... action is low. The tone variety is also amazing. Pickup blend, bass, treble, active/passive, and tone. Just amazing. It is also one of the most responsive Basses I’ve played when varying hand position and the attack on the string. Just a joy to play. Yes, fwiw, I’m very impressed. It is maybe the nicest bass I’ve ever played on many levels. This is no exaggeration. I know... just show us the photos, Scooter. Here you go...
Beautiful! I'm a big Mayones fan. I bought a Viking last year but sold it only because the humbucker sound just wasn't a fit for my current projects. But man... it felt like nothing I had played before. Everything about it was superb. Enjoy your Jabba!!
I think we chatted about your Viking and I played it at CME. It is very nice. Thanks, the Jabba is nice.
green is good! that's a remarkable looking ax --- i'm glad it's got the feel...that's what counts! congratulations on your new instrument!
Mayones are beautiful, elite basses! My dream bass - the one I lust to own - is the Jabba Custom EP 4
Definitely an under the radar brand in the bass world. Unfortunate how much they cost in NA but it is what it is. I'd love to see them do a bass version of the Hydra!
I have a bass with the Aguilar 4M/J-hc pickups in it, and it is by far my favorite sounding bass. Amazing pickups. I really wish more companies would offer them, or at least an MM/J config. I also used to have a Mayones Jabba and it was one of the nicest basses I've ever played. Unfortunately, it weighed 10.5 lbs and that was just more than I wanted to lug around.
That is one great looking bass! Wow. Also... holy crap on the neck joint and the way they cut to provide upper fret access. That took some thought! Looks like it provides great access? (yah yah there's no money there blah blah blah )
It does have amazing access. I can’t say I spend a great deal of time that far up the neck, but there is absolutely nothing in the way when it’s needed.
Thanks for all the other kind comments. I replaced the strings this morning, I figured they were 6 months old and due, it came to life on a new level. We’ve all said it before, when they sound good acoustically, that translates to amplified. This one is louder unplugged than some acoustic Basses I’ve played. Just really nice. I like it more and more.
CME is a great company to do business with. I've bought a few basses from them. Most recently a used Roscoe Century Standard Plus 5 for a great price. Congrats on the purchase.
