My new P Bass arrived today. It's the Nate Mendel P bass MIM. I had moderate expectations based on what I'd read and seen on youtube. My concern was that maybe the build quality could be low or maybe the quality control would let something sub par slip through. I bought this one online from GC and was assured it was coming factory sealed. Well I have to say, after unboxing it I was pleasantly surprised. This bass has much exceeded my expectations on build quality, play-ability, and tone. My only issue (loosely speaking) were the strings it came with. I made a quick trip to GC and bought some D'Addario Chromes. I'd never used these flats but heard how great they are and MAN did they make this thing sing. The difference is enormous. I'd played the fender flats and would have been happy putting them on but I had to try these because I'd heard nothing but great things about them. They really are fantastic strings! So back to the bass...I noticed immediately the comfortable jazz-like neck. It feels great and plays easy like a jazz. The tone from the quarter-pounder split P is really great projects very well...especially after putting on the chromes. The bass feels very solid. The quality is very good. To me this bass is a true value at about $500 less than the American P. With the SD Quarter Pounder, jazz neck and hi mass bridge this bass goes at least toe-to-toe with the Am P. I really like the color combo and the light relic work it comes with. It has a nice worn-in look and feel. If you are looking for a Precision I'd recommend you check one of these out. It's only day 1 but I know this ones a keeper!

I love mine and I gig with it all the time. The only change I made to it is swapping the black pickguard for a mint green one to give it some visual "pop". Great bass. Congrats!

I love mine too. I think these basses are a great value. I bet you’ll really enjoy it.

I’m not a fan of Chromes, but something tells me they probably work great with that quarter pounder.

Currently my favorite bass I own. I have a few planned upgrades but nothing earth shattering. Lightweight tuners, new pickguard, and an EMG Geezer pickup are in the works. The QP pickup (at least with rounds and IMO) gets buried in my live situations so I’m going after the Geezer to help. As far as a resonant player with a killer neck and finish, I love it.

My NM is my best rock bass. I have other P's that work very nicely, but if I'm hired for a 'rock' band (any era), the Nate will deliver.
    Congrats!!

I really like the Chromes but i decided to swap out with D'Addario Nickel Wound EXL Med. and they are great on this bass.
