So after a horrible 5.5 month wait (it wasn't that bad..my other basses got me through!) I finally got the Neptune Blue PDN Stingray I ordered from L.A. Music. Before I say anything about the bass, I've gotta say that L.A. Music was great to deal with. All the reps I talked to were awesome and very helpful in making sure I got exactly what I wanted and the best price for it. They even gave me a deal when I quoted a lower price from a competitor, making it cheaper from them. I would shop with them in the future for sure! If you're from Canada, check them out (I don't represent the business, just really pleased with the service). I've wanted a stingray since I started playing bass, it was my dream bass since the day I first heard Louis Johnson play one. I scoured the local used classifieds and the talkbass classifieds but the exact bass I wanted never showed up. I wanted a Stingray 5 with HS pickup configuration and a rosewood fretboard. After looking for a couple years, I decided to just buy one made the way I wanted it, and when I happened to start looking I found out that there was a special colour available at the time, called neptune blue. After seeing the bass for the first time, I knew that was the one for me. Check it out, I think it's one of the most beautiful basses I've seen. I am biased, of course
There is a three band four string with the same color and roasted neck at Mojo's Music in Edwardsville, Illinois. It has a mahogany body.
Stunning! I originally ordered the same in a Bongo but changed my mind for a CR4 EUB. Would have loved that Stingray more with a matching headstock. Lovely colour!
Yeah, the mahogany sounds fantastic. The bass is actually lighter than my 5 string USA jazz, and I think the body wood has something to do with it. I don't have a fancy bathroom scale or anything so not sure on exact weight. But it's not bad! Love the neck! There was two options for the neck of this PDN run, flamed maple and bird's eye maple. Unfortunately, it was left up to chance. From the day I ordered I hoped I got the bird's eye, and I lucked out! If it wasn't for the bird's eye maple on the headstock I might agree, but I do love how that figuring looks.
Sweet! I just picked up its cousin: A 5 HH in Pacific Blue Burst. I guess we're related now. Congrats!
