Crossposted from the Show yer Basses thread- this one’s been in the works for a while now. A pal of mine in Virginia made this baddie for me from scratch. It started off as a straight up Wal MK1 tribute but I decided to go with a Jazz body instead. Mahogany core + front & back maple facings! I was rocking that sweet BABP G&L L2000 at the time we were deciding on what types of wood to use for the neck, and the L2K had a blank ebony board, so I went with roasted maple + a blank roasted maple board. It’s got Luminlay side dots, though. The Nordstrand Big Blademan pickups sound amazing, as expected. I’m impressed at how many tonal options the JC3B preamp has on tap. I’m also impressed at how loud the pickups are even being practically bottomed out in the body!! Kickass bridge + Sadowsky style knobs.. I’ve used both of these on many other builds and I just really dig em. The Gotoh Res-o-lite keys are something new to me, however, and I’m actually pretty happy with how smooth they feel. Wish I’d tried them sooner, to be honest! Anyhow I’ll be sure to post a few more pics soon. I’m friggin stoked on this one!!
They look so cool, too. Most of my basses have the clover keys and I have grown accustomed to them but I’ve always thought these looked the coolest, and I do have them on one bass … so far …
Yeah, I’m sold on them now, too.. funny I was originally looking for a gently used set of roadworn lollipop Hipshots but thought these Gotohs looked awesome. The idea of these being ultra super lightweight was the deciding factor for me! My other three basses all have aluminum necks with locking Sperzel keys, which I also really dig. But not so much on Fender style headstocks. The next “normal” bass I get will definitely be getting a set of these installed ASAP
That is really a stunner - congratulations! I'm a Nordy fan/artist so it's especially exciting to see this p'up/pre combo. I'll bet it sounds amazing. I have been eyeing the Res O Lite tuners for a future fretless 5 build. They're my #1 choice at the moment - I've always heard great things about them.
I like how you moved the front pickup back a little. In my experience that pulls some mids forward in the tone in a good way. I’d love to hear you play it.
