My moms a preschool teacher. She went to samash to buy schoolroom instruments....recorders, egg shakers and such. So she knows I play the bass and knows they have 4 strings, so she bought me this because she said it's adorable:
I don't play the ukulele so this is all new to me. It's a kala pocket ukulele. Apparently the smallest uke on the market.
    Here one for perspective:
She legitimately thought ukuleles are small basses. She also thinks that yahoo is the internet, because that's the launch page i set up for her on her browser. She's a sweet lady.

Change her home page to Google and watch her freak out.

Tell her that Google is a less expensive more user friendly Yahoo!

Cool move by your mother. Make sure and give her a big hug.

Of course. She was so happy when she gave it to me I almost didn't tell her it's not a bass, but i told her I love it and I really wanted one anyway. I do like it but never had any desire to get a uke.
I wonder if I could tune it EADG and have a tiny piccolo bass. This gcea business is confusing.

I was a big GI Joe freak when I was a kid (early 80's). My favorite vehicle I owned was probably the Skystriker fighter jet. Retractable landing gear, movable swept wings, and the coolest part: cockpit with 2 removable seats AND parachutes. Those parachutes were freaking awesome.

I came home from school one day to find that someone had cut off the parachutes and glued the seats in place.

Mom thought they came out because they were broken, so she thought she'd surprise me by "fixing" them with superglue.

    Thanks, mom. :crying:

Tune it EADG and have some fun. DO NOT, IN ANY WAY let your mom think this isn't anything but awesome (which it is!).

Too bad she is so confused.

Everyone knows that Yahoo is a delicious chocolate flavored drink. I know this because I have an intertube connection that brings up this this web page about it: http://www.yoo-hoo.com/

    Ukes are great. Enjoy. :)

    ...and, moving this to Miscellaneous.
  17. She thought of you and she tried. That's a cool mom! Now tune it up and learn how to play it. You may grow to enjoy it. I have a few ukes myself.

It's adorable and so's your mom.

really? it's a chordy instrument, hence the usual tuning...

+1. It's tuned like that for a reason, and you'll find it a lot easier, once you get your head around it.

    Ain't mums great? :)
