OK, I got it a couple days ago, but since I'm usually one of the first to point out that an unphotographed bass doesn't exist, I waited until I could get a picture up before I opened an NBD thread. They've cut me some slack over in the Sadowsky Club, for which I'm grateful.

I bought this off the floor at Bass San Diego. I originally went there to get a nice sunburst version of the same bass, but since I already have two sunbursts, I figured this would be an easier sell to my wife. She's asked me in the past why I don't have a black bass, so I went with that for justification.

This one wasn't even up on BSD's website yet, and I saw it sitting there, so I had to play it. It's got the ash body with maple fretboard, and I actually like the sound better than the alder sunburst with the rosewood fretboard.

The only thing I don't like about it is that the strings are new. I hate new strings. I played it at practice Wednesday night through my Eden WTX-500 with Bergantino AE210 ("world's cutest rig"), and it sounds fantastic. In a year or so it should sound even better. I bought it to be a frequent gigging bass, and it's perfect for that.

I already had that strap, and it goes with the bass. I put some Schaller locks on the bass and the strap. (Dunlop lovers, don't hate. I use them too.)

So here it is, the "Magpie Bass." It's got the blocks and binding. Somebody called it a Geddy Lee bass. This one's a Magpie.

  2. sweet. I'm planning to go over to Sadowsky's shop sometime in the next few weeks, as it's near my office by subway and I could do it over a long lunch hour. I've never played one but I have heard many and they're so nice.

Very nice! Am I seeing correctly that it has blocks with no binding?

You're going to have a very nice time. Say "Hi" to Kevin for me. Roger, too, if he's there.

It's got the binding. It just doesn't show up too well in the photo.
