That makes sense too.
Maybe mat black finish, ...bakelite style?
Leave it the way it is.
Needs to have the late '70s thumb rest installed. Then it will be perfect.
stock, blk pearl or anodized?. ...someone mentioned black sparkle would look wild too...tough call....just refinished a pj in similar color with matching headstock...cant decide the pg either.
Even though I don't really need another Jazz, I've been GASsing hard on the Jazz version of this lately because I love silver basses with matching headstocks. I voted tort, because that's definitely what I would do if I were to get one.
Now that's a funky pickguard! Feel free to show off your PJ here.
Funny enough I was going to get a Jazz, even put a down payment on one but it wasn't due in until August. When I saw the orange Jazz in my avatar for a good price I jumped on it instead. But the GAS never went away! I'm just a sucker for sparkly finishes and this was one of those odd times I could afford a bass with that finish.
Much as I love my PJ I never used the J pickup, already had another black bass that's going nowhere, and it doesn't have a matching headstock. So that's up for sale to pay for the 75th (along with the BTB and pedals I already traded).
you won't go wrong leaving it alone, but if you had to swap out the guard a nice blue would compliment the grey.
I like the black one
Looks great as-is. I have no idea why someone would put a tort guard on a nice sparkly bass like that.
Still a work in progress...Even threw on a 70's era headstock decal. The clearcoat is still drying. If i leave sitting on something for too long it will leave that texture on the finish, so i had to take these real quick and hang it back up.. hehe
I voted for the stock black, pearloid, or black abalone PG but that gold sparkly one that HardNHeavy posted is a beauty and would make the subtle gold in the paint really pop. Either way, I'm in agreement with swapping out all the hardware with black. And if you do choose to change the hardware it's an opportunity to go beyond just aesthetics and do upgrades while you're at it like a set of lightweight tuners, a bridge of your choice, straplocks, etc. I would also consider gold hardware which would also work very well on that particular bass.
But most importantly...Play that thang!
I also think the black looks great.
I'd love that gold sparkle pg! They are a bit pricy tho.
Looks like a Hot Rod to me -
Love the painted headstock.
Nice find - - - I'm jelly.
That's a gorgeous finish. What are they calling it? I would go White or Black pearl.
Man, leave the black one on it, replace pickup and guard screws with black screws, replace the jack washer and nut with black. Total cost 20 bucks maybe. I can give you part numbers for all of that, I just did it.
