I was just killing some time browsing at CG when I saw a very nice looking bass (Looks just like my 2012 American Stnd 3 color burst Jazz) there. I picked it up and checked it out. It felt great in my hands. The fit and finish was really really good, surprisingly good. I couldn't find anything wrong with it. I flipped the price tag over and saw 279!

I plugged it in and although not quite as sweet at the American stnd, it did have a darn good, noticeably "vintage tone" that I kinda really dug so I brought it to the counter where they took another little bit off. I was out the door for under 270!!!

The neck was set up very nicely. All I did was drop the saddles a pinch and it was good to go!

Bottom line- YOU CAN"T GO WRONG FOR THAT KIND OF MONEY I was blown away by the quality, feel and sound of the thing. I still can't believe how nice it is and how good it sounds.....

I have a Squier James Johnston bass. Love it. Best sounding bass I've had.

  11. I wish when I was 18 years old and started playing bass (Ahem...1975),,,,that there were basses then,,like these "Cheap" Squier basses we have now. These are so superior to what I could get then and would have helped learning to play so much easier...:bassist:

  12. I hear ya...the Squier VM Jazz I had was absolutely fantastic. Played great, looked great, sounded great (if a touch aggressive). Enjoy yours!

Nice bass! Lately I've been looking at a VM P 5 string... I'm waiting for my local store to bring one in to try it. Are the Ps as good as the Js?

In addition to a VM 70's Jazz and a CV 50's P, I picked up a used VM P V a few months ago. Really nice bass! I bought it as a back up for my MIM Deluxe Jazz V, but it's so nice I may just start gigging it.

The first thing I did with my VM Jazz was put standard Jazz knobs on from the parts box! I probably still have the original knobs in the box.

Congrats on the new Bass, looks awesome. Glad to hear it plays so well.
I've been wanting to get one of these myself to mod up with stacked knobs
and add the ashtrays for the full vintage look.

The reason I got it (other than the price) was to use it as a knock-around, something I could wear around the house not having to worry about it getting beat up. I also thought it would be a great test-bed for mods but after playing it for a few days, I don't think I'd change much if anything. Not right a way anyhow.
