NBD! Squier VM Fretless J

Hi everyone!

So, after a lot of browsing, trying out basses, hitting my head against the wall over what to buy, I finally went with a brand new Squier J Fretless. Couldn't have done more right than I have! After a quick setup, I really love the bass. I'm lucky to have gotten one without any imperfections, which is a double-yay for me.
Here are some pics. :)

After an afternoon of playing I just keep falling deeper in love with this bass! It just plays and sounds so right.
I got everything you see on the pictures from thomann. The strap is a Minotaur Peacemaker, the case is a standard Fender P/J tweed case, then there's the Fender custom shop tweed cable and gold schaller straplocks.

In response to Broke: Fretless basses give away a very different sound than fretted ones, and offer you a different range of playing and tonal possibilities. To me, they're also much more fun to play (with) and experiment. When you get a chance, try one out and you'll see what I mean.
Also, listen to Jaco Pastorious, he mainly (if not exclusively) played fretless. Also a lot of earlier Pearl Jam stuff was recorded on a fretless, most known being Alive and Black.

I'm a total newb. Why wouldn't someone want frets?

Some would say "why would someone want frets" Seriously though...
Theres a different tone that only comes from strings on wood, an ability to slide between notes progressively without individual note delineation, a great vibrato sound and many other things that contribute to the appeal of fretless instruments.

I wouldn't normally say this, but I recommend doing a search for "fretless" and immerse yourself in a few hours of reading and fretless wonder.

Sweet bass! I picked one up about three months ago, and with a little set up, it's amazing. Mine (2013) came with the Fender design pups, they were pretty good but I eventually dropped in some Fender Custom Shop 60's and they are awesome! The only other change was that I put in all new larger cts pots and jack. I may eventually go with a new bridge, but that's down the road. These basses play so well and feel so good, probably the best bargain I've gotten yet on a piece of equipment.
Enjoy your bass and let us know how it works for you!
