So a week ago I had some extra Paypal money and was browsing Ebay when I saw this bass. It was cheap enough, kinda quirky, and I dug the way it looks, so I bought it..... and promptly forgot about it in all that has been going on.

    Fast forward to today....

So a bit earlier today I bought a Lakland, and quite honestly, figured I wouldn't get any more basses for a month or two. I was just watching some hockey (GREAT GAME !) and the doorbell rang. I had no idea, so to the door I went in my boxer shorts to see who it was. It was the USPS guy, and he was just walking away, so I answered the door in my boxers and called to him. He had a package I needed to sign for...so.... wondering what the heck it was, I signed for it !

Well, I still had no idea when I opened the box and saw the gig bag. What the hell had I bought ???? As I opened the gig bag, the pieces fell into place.... it was the bass I bought on a whim a week ago !!!

I unpacked it, looked it over, and knew it needed different strings and a setup....so....back to Bass Emporium to get some Chromes.

Well, it's now set up and plays pretty well. The mahogany neck is skinny like a Geddy Lee Jazz Bass. I'll tweak it later, but the action is good and it sounds like a P Bass should. I guess I got a bargain !

Anyway, here it is.... the bass that I forgot I bought !!!!

What wood is that? It looks like bamboo. Cool-looking bass ... kinky pickguard.

    ......and just as strange:
You propped it up on the side of your house on top of the utility boxes to take a pic.
    Cool looking though........
I wonder what all the parts are from? One bass or a mix of stuff?

I'm pretty sure that the back is poplar and the front is spruce.

    Either that or it's wonderwood.

The ad didn't say what the wood is.

As I mentioned, I'm pretty sure the back is poplar and the front is spruce. Having built a few hundred guitars, I have a pretty good handle on wood types. :D

Yeah, the goofy pickguard sealed the deal for me . I like it - reminds me of something that would have been on a MIJ bass in the 70's.

You know, this guitar intrigues me more than the Lakland you bought.

    Great find.

I like it. The P pup looks like it is closer to the bridge than a traditional P, that seems potentially cool. The unique guard and the sort of "burnt" sides are groovy looking.
