I tend to not like modded pickguards cos most simply suck and it's kinda hard to not make it suck, of course it comes down to having an artistic design that flows with the body style and on a spudly P bass there's not much to work with lol Fender did well with their pickguard designs.
screw holes are a no no IMO, I turned lemons into champagne on my Peavey Zodiac BXP that came sans the pg but the screws still in which was part of why I wanted this bass so bad cos it looked cool that way, so I replaced the outer screws with small chrome tabs to replicate the look but with a flush surface then pegged the few other holes with toothpick and colored them to blend in. I doubt you could get away with that look on a P, even disappearing the holes might be harder on yours, and refinishing is beyond consideration... tuff call.

nice job, Bass V : a similar idea occurred to me, but your 'treatment' clarifies the concept! thanks for sharing that.

i have gigs and some PA work to do this weekend, so i'll be working on the glarry project (or at least thinking about it) when i'm able...

    ...just not sure...yet!

    Hi JRA :)

Sorry for coming late to the party!

    Cool project!

    Saw that coming! :D

Tuners have to turn and to hold tune! :D When they work and you don' t think they are fugly,

just keep them. IMO of course!

Before you buy something light weight, move the strap button (at the bridge) upwards.

    JRA bass.

    Helps to get it balanced!

    That "burlywhateveritiswood" :D looks nice!

I would go for a smaller pg! I know that you like black.

    What about a dys guard?

I would use an old vinyl record (one that I love but is too scratched to play)

    But that' s just me!

    thx for sharing

hey, wise: thanks for chiming in! glad you did!

 yeah, i like skinny necks --- and i cannot lie! (FWIW: i still have one P neck, but it's not as chunky as the glarry neck.)

i've done that on my other gigging axes --- thanks for the reminder! --- and you're right: try that first. ;)

good idea! hadn't thought about the vinyl record bit:

Thought about an old Jazz record and to keep a part of the label.

You can' t keep the label when you take Paul Anka! :D

On the other hand, Paul Anka will improve with every scratch you add!

:D i googled "campy" music/tunes and his name came up...i'd forgotten about him and that tune...now it's looping in my head!

per your suggestion: i like the LP idea, though --- it might have to be some jazz or funk! ;)

    Hi JRA :)

Once upon a time… (true story!)

A good friend of mine replaced the white picguard on his black Ray (no more "toilet seat" comments :D)

Cutting the LP => No problem with a jigsaw. Good idea!

Melting the edges to get them smooth => No problem with the camping stove. Looks neat! Great idea!

Doing it on his mum' s kitchen table = bad idea!!! :D

Using dad 's Charlie Parker LP = worst idea ever!!!!

ok: the ax is playable and is ready for some 'testing' if not gigging --- i have several more critical tasks and this piece might be a #1...maybe even priceless!

    i had to shim the neck, may need more attention; i still have to work the nut; will need another more thorough setup; i put some used TI jazz rounds on for now; i had the string tree;

here's the cost breakdown, rounded up (parts i had, or purchased to make this happen:
    $95 - glarry fretless bass
    $60 - chinese maple neck
    $20 - tuning machines - amazon
    $100 - schaller 3D bridge
    $20 - schaller strap locks
    $50 - pre-amp: Richter PB-VT Preamp - Best Bass Gear
    $85 - pickups: DiMarzio - Pickups - DP127 Split P Black - Best Bass Gear
$5 - can of purple paint (krylon fusion --- for plastics)
    ____________
    $435 total

here are some slightly fuzzy pics as of this date:

    front2. body. head2. side. headstock.

if/when i make any other significant changes i'll post here with an explanation.

i won't know how this p-bass "sits in the mix" :D until i play it somewhere! i'll keep you informed!

    thanks for watching! ;)

    Nice looking fretless transformation!
Like that decal on the headstock!
Can you go into some detail as to how that was created? REALLY nice touch!

Looks killer! I'd love to see a closer/clearer pic of the head stock. Would you mind sharing the meaning of logo? Love My Bass JRA? The screws just disappear into the guard, nice detail there!

Would really enjoy hearing it in action some day. No rush, no pressure

    ha! thanks, guys.

that logo on the headstock are the initials of my wife (LMB) and myself (JRA) + a rosebud (she's my sweety!): it's on three of my axes. made with water slide decal paper from the hobby store + inkjet printer = easy peasy!

the screws disappear because i painted them purple, too! i was going to use black (i had black pg screws and then thought: "why not purple!?") i ordered a regular p-bass pickguard but they don't fit these glarrys so i had to punt. i have a scroll saw so i may whip one up (one of these days :D ).

i'll take some more pics tomorrow --- outside if it isn't raining.

That's awesome, you've been married to her for a while?

I think you've set a record. Most extensively modified Glarry in such little time!
