I found this at a local guitar guy and had to come back to the Thunderbird club. It’s a 1991 closet queen. Store owner told me he’s had it for over a year and when I dismissed the $1400 price tag he came down to $1,000 out the door. When I say it’s practically brand new, I mean it. Still has the warranty card, “manual” and truss tool. When I changed the strings I had to adjust the relief and the truss cover seems like it has never come off (the screws were untouched). There was dust on it and on the case but as you can see from the pictures, it cleaned up perfectly. I would dare say better condition than any off the wall “New” bass you’d buy at whatever store. There’s no cracking in the pots and the case is immaculate. Im-mac-yoo-late.

I think it’s walnut ... not burst. Can anyone confirm that?

Oh and it sounds fantastic with brand new hi-beams.

Looks like one of the best Thunderbird deals one can hope for.

  5. Once you have one of the early 90s ebony board birds it makes it hard to have a newer one

Beautiful example, in the early years of reissue the neck was quite flat, as yours is. (Note how close the bridge sit to the surface of the bass) In later years Gibson added quite a bit of pitch to the neck and you'd end up raising the bridge a lot. The pickups are most likely a variation of the design used in '76s, take a look sometime!

    I would have guessed mahogany.

Could be. I’ll need to look up the colors and compare.

The grain is definitely mahogany. Pretty.

Next time you have the strings loosened, unscrew one of the pickups and take shot with your phone, and post it over on the club thread. I'm curious as to which of several versions Gibson used at that point vs. what was in my '89.

    What a 'beaut! Congrats!
Man, there is nothing like a brand new condition T Bird. Seriously. Got mine, new in sealed Gibson box and everything. Got that vanilla Gibson case smells... Certainly looks like mahogany vintage burst to me. Enjoy!
