Having to shift to short scales, I picked up a new Ashbory... Cool little bass, with a big sound.. And then a guy at church brought me something he called a piccolo bass, but I'm not real sure that's what it is... Can't turn down a freebie, but at the same time I'm like What is that???? 25" scale and MIK, no name anywhere, only markings are at the jack and that's where it says MIK... He homemade a nut for it, and it needs some TLC, he had it tuned A - C, but other than all than I've really got no idea what it is... So anyone have any ideas???
So any idea how best to string and tune it? I need to work on the nut first, he did a decent job, but I want to lower it a bit, got to find out the electronics layout and what does what...
Sound is actually very interesting, I'm still fiddling with the various knobs and switches etc, it can go from a very biting treblely rattling sound to a raspy rumbling grinding type tone. None of your typical deep booming bass, but hey at that scale can't expect it to... It's really got some bit a lot like you're running it through some distortion... Think a touch higher pitched "Sunshine of Your Love" type tone. I'll see if I can't get the sound cleaned up and try a clip using it....
The scale leaves me to believe it was a guitar at one point. And turned into a bass along it's life. The tunning machines on the bottom are from a four in line so they were reversed. Just my humble but hey it is unique and i don't have one so rock it. And your little bass is cool i have wanted one of those. Good scores
