after receiving two of the new Epiphone Thunderbird vintage Pros (and loving them!), my new Epiphone Embassy just arrived about a half hour ago. i owned an early 60's Epiphone Coronet with the silver fox finish (the guitar version of the Embassy) in the 70's and always wanted an Embassy so it was a great opportunity to buy one at a budget price of only $389. It has the same pickups as the T-bird VP (which are awesome), and i kinda wish that they made it with the bat-wing headstock, but it doesn't bother me since the first ones actually had 2 on a side tuning keys. It played pretty good right out of the box but after a slight neck adjustment, slightly lowering the strings at the nut and adjusting the action, pickups and strobing the intonation it plays and sounds great. It weighs in at a light 7lbs 10.4 oz. With a solid mahogany body and set mahogany neck, i think that it's a real bargain.
here's a pic of mine right after i unboxed it:

Very nice! That's a handsome (and affordable) little bass.

I think it needs a lightweight, vintage-y looking set of tuners though. The Gotoh type don't do this design justice.

    What do you think, John?

Very nice. Congrats. I want to try one of those but my closest GC hasn't had any of them on their shelves. I think I may see one at another music store a little further away though.

I've just been recently gassing for one of these, way cool. How does it balance? Body seems small.

it balances perfect. it's neck is chunkier than the T-bird VP but in a good way. the VP is tapered more like a j bass, and the embassy is less tapered, and fat and round, like an very early EBO.

i agree. so much so that i already installed a set of USA hipshot nickel clover leafs ultralites on it. no drilling or modification other than just mounting them. they fit just like the chrome 'Y-Key' type that came on it.

    embassyheadstockfront. embassyheadstockback.

Very Nice! Can you see the wood grain through the finish, is it opaque? What is the fret board material?
  14. HNBD John, an Merry Christmas etc. dig the bass as well as the pedal warehouse. Looks like the department of redundancy department. Ha

Are the pickups in the same location on this and the Thunderbird? Would you mind measuring?
