Scored the best deal I've ever gotten today. Saied Music is having an insane sale today on basically everything. So I went in today and snagged... Brand New Ernie Ball Music Man S.U.B. Active for $199 NOS open box Boss EH-2 Enhancer for $20 Brand New open box Boss CH-1 for $20 4 On-Stage Stands guitar stands for $5.99 each. Yes, $199 for this bass, brand new, right off the wall. I kid you not.
I'm paranoid about giving my location on the internet but if you go to their website there are several locations listed.
The action is pretty high, but it'll be fine after a proper setup. It's been in their store for years (I know because every time I come in its been there), but they never sold it, so I guess they just marked it at cost to just get their money back on it. Even with the action as high as it is, it still feels awesome.
i saw an all black SUB ray going for i think it was like $599 last summer at a shop and it was beat up significantly compared to this one. i mean it wasn't unfixable, but still this is a steal in comparison no doubt..
Just as well. I totally can`t justify buying a bass right now, but I tried their website. If I could have gotten this deal online, I would have had one on the way. I played a SUB at GC once and liked it a lot ! It was used and twice as much as this one - score of the year, man !
Brand New Ernie Ball Music Man S.U.B. Active for $199 NOS open box Boss EH-2 Enhancer for $20 Brand New open box Boss CH-1 for $20 4 On-Stage Stands guitar stands for $5.99 each. Thomas the Train poster: priceless.
Might be a dumb question, but... Does anyone know if I can make these electronics passive? I don't like using active electronics. Is it something I need to do with the wiring, or do I just need to take the battery out in order to run it as a passive bass?
If you remove the battery, it won't work. There are options to turn it passive as far as electronics go, but the inherent "musicman-ness" won't be there anymore. Just my two cents!
Yeah, that's a great score - you could easily double your money on the SUB, alone - although I'd keep it, as they appear to be going up in value... Basically, you have a US made, plain jane StingRay Classic, minus the string mutes - which I wouldn't use, anyways... oh, and no string thru the body, which isn't a biggie, either... - georgestrings
I took the battery out and played it passive this morning. It does work, albeit with about 1/3 of the volume it had before, but you are right, the "musicman-ness" was totally gone. I'll just stick with the active electronics.
I've been wanting one of these for a while, I have no plans of selling it. I've always loved Stingrays. I think that eventually these will start going for dangerously close to the $1,000 mark. Right now, they go for about $350-$450 on ebay, and for some reason they sell for a little more here, as I've seen some go for as high as $600ish in the TB classifieds.
Also, does anyone know where I can find a black pearloid pickguard that doesn't cost upwards of $60 for this thing? I think that's the color I'm going with on the new pickguard, Since I think flat black would be too plain-jane. The color of this bass is pretty ugly, and normally I hate black pearloid on anything, but I think that's the only pickguard color besides flat black that would look good with this color.
I'm planning on buying a PG for my SUB Sterling here: Pickguard Heaven: Prices - Music Man - georgestrings
