Hello all, just wanted to share with you a bass that I've been checking for a long time. I was in a hunt for a "p51" (slab board) bass for years, did quite a research, looked for builders, luthiers even looking to mod a cheap Harley Benton or a Squier. My price range was around 800-1200 usd, so options like Fender Custom shop were out of the range. Also another thing that I really like is the "worn" and "relic" look, therefor the "crafted in japan" model, which is great, also fell out of the choices. I was looking for a true passive, "first electric bass", no frills like Leo would have built it bass In the end, living in Europe, like myself shortens the possibilities (I found that in the USA i.e. there are lot more options in searching for this type of bass in terms of luthiers, options, etc...) So, long story short, my eyes fell on this luthier from Rome (Italy) called Luca and his ALNUS Basses. He runs a Reverb shop. Does all the wood work himself, all the relicing, the hardware is from Korea (which the relics by himself) and also wires the pickup himself. The bass sounds GREAT. Has the true vintage tone and feel. When the bass came I have to make a little setup since it was BRAND NEW, after that and after I put my trusted Thomasticks flats on ... BOOM ... true 50s fender bass. I invite you all to check his Reverb: https://reverb.com/shop/luca-1 There are some really nice basses. Hope you like it as much as I do {}
Nice relic bass..... But, the saddle and pickup need some fine adjustment to make the bass string has well align from bridge to pickup magnet pole until neck heel . Skip it if you have zero OCD.
Thanks man ... I did the photo just after I've unpacked it I did the setup today and plays wonderfully! Thanks for the tip!
It's official, I like it as much as you do. Glad you found what you were looking for a little closer to home.
perfect! glad you found a helpful luthier and that you got the ax you've been looking for --- congratulations on your new instrument!
I'm really digging that sonic blue on his page. Cool stuff. Even with the heavy freight fee to the USA that cost is a very good deal.
I will be honest. At first glance I read the title as Anus Bass. Nice looking bass, and it looks like the guy makes a lot of cool stuff.
Very well done all the way around. He got some serious crust going on the tuners, bridge and plate. I for one, am jelly.
I've never been into the whole relic thing either, but this really looks like it's been on the road for decades. Enjoy your new/old bass, brother!
