Just got a neck from a TBer(Thanks Mac!) and its just a bit too wide for the neck pocket of the body its going onto. My thought is to sand a bit on either side till it fits but wanted to see what a pro's thoughts might be. Its maple wood and it looks like it may only need about a 1/16 over all to get it too fit. Any tips I should know about or is this just straight forward sanding? Any advice would be great! TIA!
This you may allready know, but just in case remember to remove the same amount of material from both sides, to mantain things centered.
I had thought of that but I do appreciate the tip. Hell I'm sure it's no big deal but just figured better safe than sorry. Again thanks for the heads up!
Removing material from the neck heel should be your last resort. The proper approach is to sand the neck pocket of the body using a small block of wood to keep the sides square. If you decide to go at the neck instead, be careful, and only sand the area that will go into the pocket. Good luck with it.
Just got done working on the neck pocket and some how I managed to NOT fug it up. Miracles never ceasing and all that. Thanks again for keeping me straight... TB rules...
Musiclogic, I got it back together and took some pics, killer music is next! http://photobucket.com/squierpbass I started with what I believe is a Mighty Mite body, not completely sure as I got it in a trade but its 2 piece and really light(Swamp ash?). Also has Q-pounder pup and BA II bridge. Really like the sound. I had originally got a Fender precision neck for it but soon found out my hand does not appreciate the wider neck. Hands have gotten worse over the years from arthritis or carpal tunnel or too much... uh....ummm... Anyway, I made a trade for a Squier P-neck with a fellow TBer. Its a 2007 indo and it says Standard Series on the head stock and the best part, and the reason I got it, is it says precision on it but its a jazz width. It plays well and fits my hand well. May change the tuners sometime in the future but overall im happy with it. Thanks again to all who replied and saved me from myself.
