Neck Tint

  1. Just a question. I have the Squier VM Precision Tele bass. I'm thinking of adding the 50's Classic Vibe Precision in the next few months as well. I like the VM quite a bit but I notice that asthetically, the neck is very light in color. Will it darken as it ages or would I need to tint it?

They do darken with age - but generally speaking - alot of aging. Several years of normal exposure. As far as tinting, most of those look real good. I, however, do not know anything about the process. I once stripped the head of a Fender to replace the worn out decals. I found some stain in the hardware that was a nice fit for the age of the body. I then covered in many many coats of clear. Turned out perfectly.

I know exactly what you mean. If the neck didn't look like it was so damn new, I'd already own one but I just can't bring myself to spend money refinishing a Squier neck.

  4. Well, as I say, it is only asthetic. The bass sounds really great through my Acoustic B200. But I've seen a few examples of 70's Tele basses and the necks look almost orange. It just kinda matches better.
