NECK! (Warmoth or USACG)?

Poll closed Mar 1, 2005.
  1. Warmoth

  2. USACG

  1. USACG is slightly more expensive..

Warmoth has stiffening rods... which make them heavier.

I have no experience with USACG but own quite a few warmoth parts inclusive of a very nice birdseye all maple neck which is just fantastic except for the slight neck dive it has with my light jazz body.

How does USACG compare? I only know they're lighter. and quite a number of people here use them.

I voted Warmoth because I have a lot of experience with their product, and have never been dissatisfied. The necks I have purchased from them have had exquisite build quality. Bodies have been just as nice. I bought a body from USACG and loved it as well. I have yet to try a USACG neck, so I may be missing something. Warmoth's necks are a little heavier, but I have yet to have any twisting, warping, etc. out of them and they sound great too.

Are the USACG necks reinforced at all? :)

USACG necks are graphite reinforced. I have no experience with either one, but the research I have done tells me I would go with the USACG stuff.
  5. I'm sure there are some ppl here with USACG necks..

  6. USAG has a very high quality product and excellent customer service.
  7. they are both soild companies but i love USACG because you can get your neck done EXACTLY as you like and not have to worry about any stock options or custom work upcharge.

I love my USACG neck... there are advantages to either vendor.. & I think you'll get a quality neck, either way.

Speed of delivery - Warmoth will get you your neck faster. USA takes a little longer.

Overall feel - I can't say enough about my USA neck.. it feels AWESOME...

Ease of order - If you want an exotic wood, & want a USA neck... you'll have to order the woods & have it shipped to Tommy. It's no big deal, & I can suggest a couple of vendors. But, its an extra step, which makes the process take a little longer.

I built a USACG telecaster a few years ago...and Tommy was beyond cool (answered emails at 10pm and put aside a body blank for me even when I hadn't commited to buying, answered every question with good solid advice). The price at that time was well below Warmoth, and his service was impeccable. For a body he used 2pc. swamp ash weighing in at just under 3.6 pounds and super resonant.

For the neck, Tommy suggested I measure as many vintage tele necks and submit the numbers to him...and he added a few of his own and we went back and forth for a week before coming up with a final measurement (it feels great!). He found a really nice piece of Brazilian rosewood for my fingerboard and since I wanted clay dots (he didn't carry them at the time, but does now), he promised that if I could find them he would do it for no upcharge. The fretwork is superb as is all of the finishing work.

For A finish for both parts I sent off to Mark Jenny aka MJTele. Tommy at USACG was disappointed that I chose a solid color because he liked the grain so much on the body and felt I was wasting it.

The finished product is something I plan to keep forever and ever!
  10. Thanks for all the replies guys. From what I've gathered Warmoth is the Macdonalds which everyone loves whereas USACG is more of a true custom replacement parts specialist... Am I right?

Yeah, the poll still favours warmoth 2:1. We all love Macdonalds on most day.. I think. ;)
