I am looking at purchasing a Double bass. I work for a large music store chain and could purchase a Holbein or a Carlo Robelli very inexpensively, although don't know if it would be worth it. I have been looking at an Antonius bass with no model number or other identifying marks for $700 w/ case. I don't know a whole lot on what I'm looking for so any info would be great! Thanks in advance for the feedback.
Those are not makers names. Just some English sounding name for a low end Chinese import Bass at best. Carlo Robelli is a made up name by Sam Ash for all sorts of Guitars, Basses etc made in who knows where. To buy a Bass, go at a real 'Bass Shop' where Pros Buy from. Ask a professional Double Bassist that plays Jazz and/or Symphony and teaches as well, not a Music Store. The Shops have a variety or price ranges to choose from. $700 doesn't even pay for half a fingerboard in the real world so all you can get is something that 'looks' like a Bass. Don't expect it to play well or help you advance technically. It's just a 'prop' at that price.
I made the mistake of buying one of those $700 basses!!! Never again!!! You get less than what you pay for.
