Right now i have a 100 watt carvin combo that has a 10 inch speaker and its just not cutting it at the small gigs im playing at. Since my amp does have a speaker out i was thinking of adding one of these http://www.speakerhole.com/product.cfm?ProductID=772 Does anyone have experience with these cabinets or should i just sell my amp and get a bigger combo. I have only $600 and i want to get a lefty jazz bass and a new amp so money is an issue. Thanks for the help
You say your Carvin has one 10 and a 10 that's out? Can we assume then that you have a combo amp with 2 10s? If so, I'd recommend that you recone or replace the bad speaker - maybe replace both with some new 10s. No offense, but that 1x15 cab looks like a joke. [Edit: I just realized that when you wrote that it has "a speaker out" you probably meant that it has an output for an external cab. Hmmm... cheap solution - find a used 2x10 or 1x15 cab, but do avoid that 1x15 in the link you posted, please!]
My combo only has one ten inch speaker but it has a speaker out. I want something with a nice fat tone. Maybe i should just sell my amp and start looking for a new rig.
Yeah, I realized what you meant and edited my original post. You're right, a new amp with more than 100 watts is what you need. You'll be hard-pressed to get a Jazz bass and a decent amp on a $600 budget, though. Your best bet may be to just look for a great deal on a used Peavey (or similar) rig.
thanks for the advice, I think i may have a line on a peavey TNT 15 inch for $200 is that a good deal??
The TNT model has been around for a long time, so I guess it would depend on age and condition. And how it sounds, of course. Maybe some TB fans of Peavey amps will step up with some input. I'd guess that's not a bad deal unless it's pretty old and battle scarred.
