need good monitors-help?

  1. Can anybody please advise me as to what the best powered monitors in the 200-250 watt range there is available , as our band is looking to buy some as our present monitors are just not loud enough.

    Active monitors are the way to go. Genelec or something in that range.
    Your ears have to decide. Choosing monitors is a personal thing.

    Not necessarily. Depends on what you're running. I use a Mackie powered mixer (808S) and it allows me to assign one 600 watt amp to the mains and one 600 watt amp to the monitors. Powered monitors are definitely NOT the way to go with that rig. Good passive monitors like JBL or Mackie work particularly well.

    Look at what you're powering things with before you make a decision on powered vs. passive monitors.
  4. The thing is that we already have a lot of equipment and to have powered monitors will mean less space cos there will be no amp to carry about.
    At the moment we are using a mackie mixer into a QSC 2450 into two HI SYS 3's if that helps!
