Approx how much would a 1968 Fender P bass cost? Is 1000 $ a good price to pay for one?
    Thx

    I don't know. For some reason later P's don't seem to be as valuable as J's. I have a 68 J.

It would also greatly depend on the condition of the bass, and more importantly, if it is original or has it been modified.

  5. If you're looking for an expressive instrument, your description of the sound gives you the easy answer.

If you're looking for a good investment, forget it, (IMO, George Gruhn's, and that of experts like him). Once irreversible mods are made and original parts are gone, the vintage value goes down the dumper.
But many "real" bassists will always give you a grand for a "beautiful" sounding instrument.

True. That J pickup hurts investment-wise... but if it sounds great, cool.
