Hey everybody, I'm new to bass, just got a brand new GSR 190 for Christmas and I have a few questions. I have already kind of learned Another One Bites the Dust and Money lol. I was wondering though if anyone could tell me what effects I need to mimic the bassists tone from Muse. Especially in Hysteria. Thanks guys, hope to hear from you soon.
Hey there, heres a thread that answers your question about different options for that tune. http://www.talkbass.com/threads/hysteria-with-1-pedal.1113438/ Dont sacrifice the bassline for a specific tone, imo the bassline sounds great with no distortion. Having said that TURN that gain up and rock out yo!

I think a good fuzz could get you that tone, to me it sounds gated as well, I only have one fuzz right now, the fuzzrocious greystache, but you can get one with the gate mod for a reasonable price new, but I've seen a guy use the way huge swollen pickle for this song also, hope I helped a little, good luck!!
I just followed that link, I guess the mammoth is the general consensus for that sound(also gated fuzz)
I think it's always better to learn the part first without effects as some of them muddy it up a bit and you can't always spot mistakes. Hysteria is a killer line, have fun
true that, I didn't use any pedals till after I could actually play decently, and fuzz can hide alot, not so much with overdrive though, which can bring out inconsistencies
Chris specifically chooses different distortions and effects based on what Matthew Bellamy is using. Can't find the source but I heard of that from some interview. It's all about fitting and supporting the aggregate sound of the music. Compression, distortion, and delay all are good to have. That being said I use no effects currently. In the past it was only overdrive and a touch of distortion. YMMV
Two things... 1. How is this an emergency, that you'd need this info ASAP? 2. Happy new bass...of course you must be informed of the first rule of Talkbass: No Pictures, No Bass!
WOW! You have completed more than half the required bass guitar repertoire to blast away at Guitar Center! Get one of those snappy E Minor slap-n-pop ditties down, and you are ready to go!
