I'm helping a friend choose a good bass for $500 or less. He doesn't mind used. He wants something with good low end and a lot of sustain. He wants to stay away from P basses. Any suggestions?

It's not a bolt-on, so more midrange than attack, but sustain for days, with a good setup and an action that can get very low
Plus a 2 band equalizer (I'd suggest to apply an active/passive
push/pull switch on volume pot) and a Gotoh HiMass bridge available on this model only, not on any other Epiphone/Gibson
    Thunderbirds.
    Ah...
The sound is not that far from a Precision: it's the bass that's completely different feeling, ok?

    Cheers,
    Wallace
