Does anyone know where these basses were crafted or know where I can find info regarding this? I'm referring to the "non-relic" model. I'm also tying to date my bass. Any info on understanding the Fender Tribute Model Serial Numbers?
All Fenders should have a serial number including signature basses. Check that out then go to this site to date your bass. It could be USA or Japan ASAIK. Guitar Nucleus - Fender Serial Numbers Cheers Davo
The standard Jaco Tributes were US made alongside the 62ri basses, same parts and all except for the neckplate. The bodies were not drilled, but the pickguard and hardware was included in the case. They came in both fretless and fretted versions for a while. As for dating, just pop off the neck and you'll find a date.
I have a Japanese Import Jaco Tribute so I can assure you they were also made in Japan. If you add a photo I should be able to tell you where it can from. Davo
Thanks much guys. Won't be home til tomorrow to post a pic. What are the differences between the American and Japanese made jaco basses? Different aesthetic characteristics? Different parts? Different serial numbers? Etc... Generally speaking, i thought American made fenders of the same model were more expensive than the Japanese or Mexican versions, no?
Oh, I truly beleive there was one made over there. But to my knowlege, the Japan version was never sold in US stores. It was hard enough finding any dealers that even carried the regular Artist Series version. The Fender catalog of available products in the US also only shows the USA made item number.
