Alright guys I got a little dilemma here. I have been playing bass for about year and a half off and on but started getting super serious about 8 months ago. Well my 20 watt johnson sounds like crap and it's time to get a new amp. But I am torn between 4 amps. I don't know much about tone or anything so thats why I am having trouble decide which would be the best. The type of music I like to play is rock and old metal. I.E. Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth, Pink Floyd, Primus. Here are the four amps i'm looking at http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Bass/Amps?sku=482537

Thanks for any tips or suggestions. -BassinJay:bassist:

  3. Look at Ashdown Electric Blue series. The 180 12 I belive is around 329.00 for even 50.00 more you can get a Ashdown Mag 300 c115. I curently have one and it's great. With an extension cabinet it will give you 300w. I don't think the Hartke will be enough if you want to play live gigs.

I just found an electric blue for 299.00

I like both the SWR and Ashdown Ideas, GK is a good company, but the story I was told was the Backline series is meant to compete on the lower end. I have one and won't use it anymore. I'd sell it if I could get anything for it.
Hartke, I've just never payed any attention to.

Hey guys thanks for the suggestions. One thing I forgot to mention was that I chose those 2 brands cause I know a dealer and he could hook me up on a dicount on those. But if they aren't that good then i shouldn't bother and just frok a little bit more money out. Thanks again. -BassinJay:bassist:
  6. I have a eden nemesis 210 that I bought new in 2001 and it is still with me today. I use it everday as a practice amp and when I play out in bars. It has about 225 watts and is plenty loud I don't ever have ro go past mid gain and 3 quater master. You could definitely find one used for about $300.

    Thanks funk.:bassist:
  8. My experience says that you should use what you have until you absolutely need more volume (IE you join an band and you need volume for practice or gigs) and just save until then.

That might be an idea there.
