    Hi!
A friend of mine recently purchased a Tung bass from his teacher, and it is truly an amazing instrument. Only problem is that he has no clue what the top body wood is. Can anyone help?

  2. I'll take a stab - spalted cedar?

    A closer shot would help.

I am going to guess bubinga. I do see the spalt that Hambone refers to.

I would guess that there is no such thing. One of cedar's key properties is its high resistance to fungal attacks, particularly the heartwood.

The center section of the bookmatch looks like sapwood to me. I'm sticking with bubinga.
