EDIT: Found it! It's 1994 Foto Flame in a rare blue burst.

So, I need help identifying this strange looking beat up P-bass. It is used by the bassist of this incredible band Swain (they used to be known as This Routine Is Hell).

Strangest thing about the bass is the weird color/burst. It looks like it's some shade of green or blue. On top of that it seems to be quilted! I have never seen anything like that before..! Is this something super rare Fender has done (like a rare Made in Japan thing), or is this some random parts body with Fender neck?

I would be so glad if someone found out what this is!

Looks like maybe the Foto Flame Precision? If it came in that color?

Holy poopie, the headstock decal placement and everything else seems to match EXCEPT the color.. Quick Googling showed me only some sunburst ones.. I will keep looking!

I think I've seen a Foto Flame strat in that color ... Memory is hazy lol. The flame pattern certainly reminds me of these things though.

I know, that's the best photo I could find.. There is very little good quality live footage of them since the band is super unknown..

Looks like a mid 90's MIJ foto flame bass
The grains look just like the foto flame ones
I looked all over google but could only find natural ones

How it got green or blue IDK but it looks great!

could be recreated easily with a warmoth body.

It's the closest thing I found. Otherwise, I found Strats in that color like everyone else. All the foto flame basses seem to be burst or natural. I saw a Sadowsky that looked close, but if they're not going to play a custom shop they probably wouldn't play a Sadowsky either. You might hit them up on their facebook page.

    Could it be an FSR?

    Hi Pufedu :)

It' s a custom shop "gaffer tape burst"

Witout kidding: The blue/ greeenish colour could be the result of a good old fashioned UV stage light.

    (just speculating)

The photo was taken with flash light, so you don' t see any "UV effect" on the clothes and other "matt" surfaces?

  15. This could also be done by applying the burst treatment and a tinted clear coat over a natural fotoflame body. Not saying that's what it is but I would think it's a possibility.

Foto flame instruments were MIJ, so maybe there were more colors available in Japan than here in the U.S. I've seen the guitars that color and it's like a grey to black burst.

Those things were so good. I foolishly traded mine off a few years ago. Wish I had it back.

Well, the headstock sure doesn't help!
  19. The way the finish looks peeled off in ragged chunks rather than normal wear patterns would support it being a foto flame (essentially the wood is covered in a thin wrap of plastic with the fake flame wood grain image)
