    I just cant figure it out so Ill ask:

    45% of 3,000,000 is 1350000

    (0.45 * 3,000,000)

    this is easy enough... but what about going the other way?

    The 3,000,000 is the 45% so what was the original value? What Im really after is a formulal to get the original value from a value if I know what percent it was.

    Im really not mathimatical so am having troubles with this!

    Any help, much appreciated! (don't mock, please!)

    What he said. Here's how you get there:

    45% of X = 3,000,000
    OR
    (0.45)X = 3,000,000
    SO
    X = 3,000,000 / 0.45

    mmm, I dismissed that because it didnt look right.
    And when I tried to do that with the 1350000 to get 3m, I left a zero out so thought it didnt work.

    It all makes sense now!

    Cheers though.

  5. actually it would be this X=Y(Z) where X is the current value y is the percent and z is the original number that your trying to find.

    I think the first step you should take is to stop calling it "maths".

    Why? Part of what gives Talk Bass its colour is that it's an international forum, isn't it? Or has it standardised on US English without someone telling me?
