So I finally got around to installing the Vintage 63 pup into my P bass and somehow managed to blow it all to hell. Post install... no output.

Check point to point, seem good. Connect the pup straight to the jack, all good. Check the pots and I can get a measure from center to the pin I didn't solder but middle to those pins... nothing.

Is it possible to melt one side of a pot with an iron? For what it is worth, I use a 40w iron with the flat tip. Oh and I suck at soldering

Can you post some pics? I don't think it's very easy to damage a Pot with an iron but anything is possible.

Snagged a pair of pots tonight and they test fine on both sides so I'll have another go at it tomorrow. Yay o_O

Well it was the pots in the end. Swapped in the new ones, soldered the wires back, all tested ok, soldered the pup... and sound. Knobs now have the Gibson off axis feel since they only had split shafts in stock but it's working and frankly that's good enough today :D
