Need help with Power Amp Question

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by Nightsblood, Nov 23, 2005.

  1. Ive found a pretty good deal on a Peavey PV2600 power amp, but the guy says this particular model was not built with a crossover. Ive read where the newer models do have two crossovers, but the seller stating the ones his has, do not. How is having no crossover going to affect me? I'll be running the amp into an RBI pre into a 2-10 and 1-15 Carvin cabs.

With no crossover your speakers will be fighting each other and the amp will be wasting power sending lows to the tens and highs to the 15. But you can get a crossover new for less than $100, even less used.

Unless you want to bi amp I wouldnt worry too much about it

  4. I wouldn't worry about it. The crossover on the PV2600 is more for subwoofers. The frequency is set at 150hz, which might be useful for a PA but in my experience is too low for bass guitar. If you wanted to bi-amp you'd want something much more versitile than that and would probably end up not using the feature anyway.
