need help

    I need to know 2 things:
    first what does a preamp does?
    Can i use a hartke 1400 as a bass head? and is it good?

    A preamp is something you use to shape your tone. I have no experience with the Hartke 1400 at all but if it's a preamp you will need a power amp to power your speakers.

    As Saetia said, a pre amp is used to shape your tone ie, more bass, less mids ect but you need a power amp to do the actual amplification and put power into your speakers.

    Yes, you can use the Hartke 1400 as a bass head, it has 140 watts 4 Ohms and 80 watts at 8 Ohms.
