I have a Peavey Mark III Bass XP series amp that my best friend lent me. I would like to buy it from him. He asked me to make an offer. I need help with info. How do I find out the specs? What is the general feelings toward this amp? Also how much would it be worth? Thank you guys. Here are some pics.

Those are great amps! And if it is in good condition it is a bargain if you can get it cheap enough. Offer your friend $100.00 and see what he says....I know that price may be a little on the low side, if it is in great shape, but what the hey....
is the bottom going with it?is it what your lookin for?check your local music store or musicians freind and try to see what they are worth new..offer about 35/40%,he'll go up to 65% you'll settle at 50%of new cost,if it works out you got a square deal and didnt lose a friend...good luck/peavey rocks but used ones are available and id take one anyday.....
Irish, I got an older Mark III at a Music go Round In Biloxi Mississippi with a matching 2X15 Cab for $350.00 back in '99. I'd check around but I don't think I'd pay more than $150 tops. Mark III's are great but they're long discontinued. If something malfunctioned (as did with mine) you could end up with an irrepairable head. Mine got to where it would toast fuses in less than 5 minutes. Amp Tech told me it was the power supply which was no longer available. Got $100 out of the cab. My rig has been discontinued by Peavey (see my profile) and it malfunctioned after 14 years. Luckily Peavey had parts on hand and repaired it. I've seen rigs like mine sell for around $700.00. Are you buying the head+cab or just the head? God Bless, Ray
it would be the whole shooting match. hes thinking in the price. i told him what i found out. i will let you guys know.
I'd offer $100.00 ....the old Peaveys have a issue of the controls getting noisy, need to have a tech go through it for about $35-$50 ...and use that as somebarganing leverage ...IMHO
Keep in mind that this is my best friend and i would not like to lose him over 50 bucks. I want it to be fair to him as well. I feel hes in bad shape as he paid 1k for it in 96. So if i walk away from the sale we still have friendship, which is why im asking him for a price instead of making an offer. i gave him the information that i have aquired. who knows. i'll keep you guys informed.
Let us know what he asks for it. 1K for a Mark III and 2X10 sounds steep even in 96. I'd pay a friend a fair price especially if he were to allow you to make payments. But I still wouldn't let him take advantage. And to tell you the truth if the guy gets sore to the point that it jeopradizes your friendship over you not wanting his amp at his asking price, he's not much of a friend. Todays market rate for the rig, is todays market rate. Nevermind what he paid. I'd be fair and give him market rate rather than expect a "deal" from him. God Bless, Ray
$400 seems kind of steep. The cab on Musicians Friend goes for $259.00 new. And anybody knows you can beat MF's prices. I don't think I'd take that deal but it's just me. God Bless, Ray
