Need Jazz Bass Pickup Measurement

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by bgavin, Dec 21, 2001.

  1. Would somebody please put a tape measure on their American Jazz bass please?

I'm looking for the centerline measurements (pole pieces) from the 12th fret for both pickups.

  2. Hey bgavin,
I have 10 3/4" from the neck PU and 14 15/16" from the bridge PU. That's from the center of the pole piece to the front (body facing) edge of the 12th fret. Give or take a 16th or so.
Just in case you were curious the bridge PU is 3.75" long and the neck one is 3 5/8".
    cheers

  3. Now ain't that interesting... probably accounts for why my RB5 sounds like an RB5 and not a Jazz. I've never been able to get quite the "growl" out of the RB5 that I got from my old Jazz.

The RB5 centerlines are 11.250" and 14.8125". The RB5 neck is within 0.125" of the P-Bass location, and the RB5 bridge pickup is 1/8" farther away from the bridge.
