The only upgrade I did to the 2008 passive made in america pbass was put on d'adarrio XL flats-- chromes? Compare to my 88 ric, which has no upgrade and round wounds, the pbass sounds dry. Would pickups -(1/4 pounders)- help? Any other ideas? I am using an acoustic 136 combo amp-- solid state 15 inch speaker/140 watt head-(very underated-- circa 1978) Any thoughts? RokkittBass
Try putting round wound strings on first before doing anything else. I like using Rotosound stainless steel strings on my P basses for a nice aggressive bite.
This. Although, to be fair, p basses aren't exactly known for their "growl" the way jazzes and rics are, so don't think it's gonna sound like your ric. And really, would you want it to?
