Like a good little soldier, I did a search first but found nothing. So, would someone please explain the best way to connect my Yamaha power amp's output of "5 way binding posts" to the 1/4" phone jack inputs into my Avatar cab? I'm eager to see if this thing fires up and runs! Thanks!
Pick up a 14 ga. speaker cable that is plenty long enough, preferrably one with a dual banana on one end and a 1/4" on the other. Don't use instrument cable. Any other questions - just ask, I'm sure someone here can help.
Thanks again for the quick replies, but I think I have a problem. Jogged over to my local music store for help before practice tonight (and trying out my new bass rig). They were most helpful. They didn't have a pre-made, banana to 1/4" speaker cable, so they quickly made one with 16/2 speaker wire. I paid'em about $15. (Supply and demand and I was in a hurry) But when I plugged the male banana plug into the female "five-way binding post" output jacks they didn't seem to fit tightly. I'm not comfortable with slop, if you know what I mean. Can I just remove the banana plug, unscrew the caps and feed the bare wire through the post and tighten them? Sure looks like it would make a better connection and be more secure. Am I doin' something wrong here?? Thanks again.
That was really nice of them. Seriously. Dont worry, youre not the first guy (or the first bass player)to say that Yes you can. It wont be as convienent as "just plugging in." Even though it may feel a bit sloppy (the banana mating experience ) It is actually a better connection than a ¼ phone plug. Speakons are the best, but hey... the last 75 years of amplified music existed without them so don't lose sleep over it.
Are Speakons only effective when used at both ends? My Eden does not have Speakons, but my Crown amp does. I can go banana to banana, which is what I am about to do. -Mike
Thanks for clearing that up! "It wont be as convienent as "just plugging in." But I was considering a permanent connection and storing the speaker cable in the back of my SKB rack/case. I like the idea of the bare wires being securely attached to the output posts. Thanks again!
