Hi, all. I'm in the market for a new bass to be used at church, and looking for recommendations. I need to have 2 basses for service, as our organ and piano are about a 1/4 step out of tune with each other. I am looking at new, with a $600 budget. We have no PA system, so I am playing through my Roland B-100 combo, and will be using an A-B switch to switch basses. I have an Aria CSB-300 I'm using with the organ, so I need to stay passive as I will not be able to change settings when I switch basses. The new bass will be played supporting the choir and a baby grand piano. Primarily playing spirituals and light gospel (hymns and service music is done on the organ). Anyone have any suggestions for a bass to fit my needs? Thanks.
How about a used MIM Fender? I would find a nice Players series Jazz and call it a day. You’ll be well below $600.
$600? Easy. A Sire bass. V3 – Sire Webstore-USA You can keep it in passive if you want, but your reasoning for doing so seems odd to me because the active is essentially like having the amp's eq section on your bass for easy access.
You said you want new, but I would suggest a good 'ol American Stsndard p bass. You can probably find one or negotiate one for $600. I believe the players series are around that price and that is for a new bass. If you are diligent in looking, you can find a loaded body used for $200-300 and then buy a new Warmoth neck with great specs. You should be able to get one this way for around $600-650. And you'd have an outstanding neck thay is better than most any bass at any price.
G&L Tribute Kiloton. As potent as an active bass but passive and pure...and very versatile. You won't find another new bass quite like it for the price...$599.
