I have a bass that was built for me (styled like a Gibson Tobias) some years ago with soapbar pickups (BC shape). The original pickups (dont know what make they are) are quite dull and mid-rangey and I was thinking of putting in some single coiled Jazz pickups to spice things up abit. I have checked the dimensions and the Jazz pickups can fit into the existing pickup holes with no problem at all. I also have a basslines active 3-band preamp at the moment.

Is there any problem with changing from soapbars to single coil Jazz pickups on a guitar that was built to fit soapbars? Might seem like a stupid question but I am a novice in electronics and I am just considering my options so any advice would be much appreciated.

nothing stopping you doing it. The wiring might be different depending on a number of factors (if your prior pickups were active, and new ones are passive or vice versa), but it's possible for sure
