    I got my first electric bass guitar on the weekend (SO happy!) it came with a guitar and amp, but to be honest, I have no idea what the knobs on the amp do. The knobs are:

    Volume
    Treble
    Mid
    Bass
    Compression

    Can some one please tell me what they do? Apart from volume lol.

    Thank you :D

    Best thing to do is set all the tone knobs in the middle, then experiment with moving each one back and forth and listening to it to hear the differences.

    Compression is something that will make your soft notes louder and your loud notes softer so your notes are more even. Try it out but don't use it. You need to learn how to make your notes sound even without it.

    So I should put compression all the way down or in the middle?

    All the way down or off if it has a switch.

  6. Down or off as stated. Basically...Volume= amount of LOUD/noise,
    Bass- low frequencies-lowest/deepest strings & notes will be boosted or cut by turning this up or down respectively.
    Mid= Middle frequencies...boost or cut
    Treble- Hi freqs boost or cut
    Compression... as stated above, can also make the bassier notes, & to a lesser degree(usually) higher notes, punchier & thicker sounding, as well as making all notes sound more even as JimmyM said.
