OK, I will be first to admit I'm not the most talented vocalist, but I can hold my own decently. Right now in our current band, I sing two songs, a slightly punked up version of "500 Miles" by the Proclaimers and "59 Sound" by the Gaslight Anthem. I would like to add at least one more song to my repertoire. Any good suggestions? Would love to do something from the '80s if anyone has ideas.
The first one I did consistently was "Authority Song" from John Cougar -- it's pretty simple, repetitive, and works on the dance floor pretty well.
A lot of songs from that era are just 1/8 notes plugging away. Shouldn't be too hard to find one. Anything John Cougar. Anything Tom Petty. Both easy to play. Both easy to sing.
Same situation here, needed some easy songs to try out my singing and playing chops. I chose these: Story of My Life - Social Distortion The Breakup Song - Greg Kihn Band Need You Tonight - INXS
Oh, didn't see tthe 80's things. Sub out Hoochie with something by REM, Like Radio Free Europe, or the One I love. pop song '89.
I like the Cars suggestion. We have been playing My Best Friend's Girl (me singing) for the last year. Goes over well.
I'd like it if I could get away with Bye, Bye Love or Candy-0, but I am in a 90s hard rock/alt type band. lol
