Finally got all of my basses back together again, so I thought it was about time to get a snapshot of them all together for insurance purposes, and of course viewing pleasure! Left to right; Bacchus Woodline-J Classic - Alder body, Maple neck, Rosewood fretboard, Gotoh Hardware, Bacchus pickups in 60's spots, passive electronics. MIJ. Fat, buttery tone, perfect for straight-ahead jazz stuff with the dead rounds on it. Bacchus Woodline-J Custom - Ash body, Maple neck, Maple fretboard with MOP inlays, Gotoh Hardware, Bacchus pickups in 70's spots, passive electronics. MIJ. Tight, punchy tone, dishes out the Marcus vibe in spades with new rounds. TBC AP-500M - Chambered Ash body with inlaid Ash pickguard, Maple neck, Pau-Ferro fretboard, stock TBC hardware and pickup, passive electronics. MIC. Huge, agressive stingray-esque tone with more throatiness. And finally (not in the pic), the 'one on the way'. MPG Level 5 in Ash/Maple with Big Singles, passive electronics, with all Hipshot gear. Can't wait for this one!
yeah, that'd be cool, dunno when that might be, don't really have any touring gigs on the horizon, maybe i should take a holiday
Two Bacchuses? I wasn't aware of that I'll have to check out the black one too once you finally receive that MPG.
Good, I'll most likely have a completed 6 string fanned fret neck by the end of the week (unlacquered though) I'm still waiting on the custom bridge so the body will have to wait for now. It's nice to finally be on vacation for a few weeks. You enjoying your holidays?
I'd have a hard time choosing between those two Jazz basses. On the one hand, blocks, and the other, that sweet light blue. Nice family.
I've been tempted to put the neck with blocks on the sonic blue jazz, but then the black jazz would just look horrendous with a sonic blue headstock!
They were knocking em out on Ebay a while ago, they were all chinese made, but are now made in the States supposedly, prices still aren't bad! www.thebasscompany.com
Hey, tell me more about that TBC AP-500M; I'm considering a backup to my MTD Kingston Artist 5 and don't know anything about those, but they look great and the price is nice
Sure thing. It's a killer bass, really light at around 7-8lbs. Slim neck front to back, bout a 12-14" radius on the fretboard. My favourite thing about this bass ever since I got it is the fretwork, it's impeccable and plays like butter, low action and no buzz (also helps that the nut is cut really well). Balances well with a normal strap. The bridge is just massive, has option of string through. Tuners turn smoothly. Tonewise, it's punchy and authoritative. The pickup sounds nice, though I ripped out the preamp cause it pretty much sucked, sounds great passive, though I wouldn't try coaxing mellow tones out of it. Playing at the neck makes it a bit thuddier, but still retains that stingray growl. I was originally gonna go for an Artist, but decided not to when I found out about the 35" scale, this one popped up on Ebay and looked perfect, Ash/Maple/Pau-Ferro, 34" Scale, 19mm spacing and looks nice and unique to boot. Hope that helps.
Light... balances well... high radius fretboard... low action.... string-through... punchy... 34" scale... 19mm spacing... I think I just peed a little! Does it come in fretless?? The 5-string page on their website seems to be down at the moment.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure they do fretless versions now. They didn't before on the MIC ones but I remember reading somewhere that they now offer the option.
