Some of you may have heard the beautiful performance of Mozart's Requiem played at the funeral of Polish President Lech Kaczynski and his wife, Maria, in Krakow. It seems that the orchestra accompanying the chorus was comprised of members of the Berlin Philharmonic.

Apparently, 23 members of the BPO were flown from Berlin to Krakow by Helicopter. According to the report, the smaller instruments travelled with the musicians. The larger instruments (i.e., the Double Basses) were sent by minibus.

When you have to get to the gig, you get to the gig.

Boy, that's interesting politically -- that a German orchestra would play at a Polish head of state memorial?? Do you know any more details??
