Neo speakers in combo amps

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by Michael Vee, Sep 16, 2004.

  1. Has anyone replaced the 10's in their 2x10 combo amps with lightweight neo speakers, to reduce the combo's weight? SWR Super Redheads, Eden Metros, for example.

I'm wondering if anyone has done this, and how it turned out.

Thinking about getting some Eminence neos for my Redhead to lighten it up by 10-15 lbs or so.

I also have a Baby Baby Blue, but it's already so lightweight as a 1x10 that I doubt a neo replacement would be worthwhile.

Neo's work fine just as long as you make sure that the T/S specs are quite close to those of your original drivers, and finding out what those are can be problematic. How much weight you'll save also depends on your existing drivers; if they're EVDLX 10s you may shave off ten pounds per driver, but if they're Eminence Beta 10's it may be only 2 pounds at best.
  3. I'm still a fan of the Eminence hemp cone 10" in my Carvin combo. Very nice sounding speaker, it sounds very good after four years.

A Redhead 15 lbs lighter is still going to be pretty heavy because of the head and cab.
