I very, very rarely write a post like this, but here it goes... I ordered a 15x8 cab from Jorg at Schroeder, approx 8 months ago. Initially, I wanted an 8 ohm cab, as to potentially utilize with a second cabinet. Jorg encouraged me to go with a 4ohm cabinet. He claimed he had a "box" that would enable me to run both 4ohm cabinets at a 4ohm load. He said he would include the box for free. I ordered the 15x8. After receiving the 15x8 and feeling that I really did need more on the top end, I ordered a 12x10. 4 ohm, as well, per his recommendation. As of this date, approx 9 months in to the deal, I STILL have yet to receive a functional "box." He sent me a "box" with speakon jacks, but two of the jacks won't receive cables whatsoever. The cabinet configuration has been utterly useless to me, seeing that my bass rig won't run at 2ohms. I have reached out to Jorg many times. He continues to promise me to get me a functional "box", but, it never materializes. After so much back and forth, I finally emailed him, yet again, telling him to please send me the promised "box", so I can sell the damned cabinets and be done with this... His response? "My engineer had surgery and is in the hospital. Sorry for the delay. Things happen." I would HIGHLY encourage anyone looking for custom cabs to go elsewhere. Jorg was somewhat helpful in taking my cabinet order and my money, but, when it came to helping actually utilize the product they built for me, Jorg has failed. I'm sticking with my Berg NV 15x6's, which my band prefers anyhow. Low end is much tighter, than the Schroeders. Sorry for the negativity, but, that's my Schroeder experience.
Maybe @agedhorse or @Passinwind might stop by to discuss the "box". Selling the cabs might work for someone who has a head the can run at 2 ohms. Or who just want one. Which amp are you using? Have you opened the "box" you already received?
I'm running the dUg Tech 21 Ultrabass 1000, at the moment. Max 4ohm load. Of which, Jorg was made aware. Ya, I'm going to list the cabs for sale, immediately. I don't want to be associated with companies that do business like this. Just unacceptable.
Such a box does not exist. You can’t connect two 4 ohm cabs to yield a total impedance of 4 ohms in a simple way. You can have a box that would connect two 4 ohm cabs in series to yield 8 ohms, or in parallel to yield 2 ohms. If you can open your box and post an image of the guts, we may be able to see how what he sent you is wired.
My guess would be that it has NL-2 panel jacks and the user is trying to plug NL-4 Speakons into it. If so, that dog won't hunt. Edit: and as a friend and former very satisfied customer of Jorg's, I am quite confident that he can and will make things right here.
Or, you could use a Shuttlemax 12.2 like I do, no problem ! Also, as I posted in another thread in response to the OP, this has not been my experience with Jorg at all; if anything, he has bent over backwards to answer all of my cab questions, and has given me great prices. Doesn't seem like the same guy at all.
One solution! Not the kind of box that they’d thrown in. In this case, wires seem to have gotten crossed and it isn’t being made right. Hope that it can be resolved.
Ya, like I mentioned, I hate to post something like this... I'm happy to hear that several guys have had good experiences with Schroeder. That's great. My point is that Jorg needed to have been far more concerned that a customer who laid out good money for two cabs (with an ohm load that he recommended) wasn't able to utilize the cabs as proposed. After so many months, how hard would it have been to simply put me in touch with the engineer? I mean, god bless the guy with his medical issues and such, but, after so many months?? This really isn't about getting the cabs to work in my scenario at this stage. It's about how we do business, with each other. Disagree?
I was only addressing the "can't plug in" aspect, and would prefer to talk to Jorg before I really say anything more.
Now, see, this is helpful. How hard would it have been for Jorg to put me in touch w/his guy, and find some potential, simple solutions. That's my point. In one or two sentences, you have offered me real input. I have a number of different speakon cords. I will try them all, again. Thanks!
On the face of it, no, but then, we haven't heard Jorg's side of it, have we ? Did he mention to you back when he proposed using his box, that you needed a certain type of Speakon cable in order for it to work ? Giving an employee's personal contact info as far as the engineer goes, may not be something he's comfortable doing, along with the engineer. Obviously, you're upset with Jorg's CS, and have a right to be after months of dealing with it. However, I don't think Jorg deliberately set out to rip you off, he just doesn't seem like a " Dr. Bass " kind of guy, at least to me. Of course, I could be wrong, and I wish you nothing but the best in getting this figured out.
Having his engineer send me an email would not have been too much to ask, nor would it have compromised his engineer's privacy. As far as Jorg's response to me, he sent me a photo of a speakon cable sitting of a table, stating, "you need one of these." That has been the extent of the help. That's unacceptable. As for Jorg himself, and anyone else's experience, etc, etc, like I mentioned, I'm thrilled for anyone who has had a good experience. For me, though, it was all petty and ridiculous. So easily rectified, to be swept under the rug continuously. That's bad business, no matter how you slice it.
i'd be interested in a cab or cabs, perhaps...but one must be a supporting member to post in the classifieds...oh well. edit: oh hey, i saw cheap tick play in a small club in s.p.i. in the ...well i don't remember now, it was long ago. about 40 people there. they tore it up!
Well, running them at 8 ohms could easily be done with a series cable or box and you'd lose only 3 dB. Getting two 4-ohm cabs connected to run at 4 ohms would require magic beyond my ken.
