    Hey,
Im new to TB here, ive been playing bass for about 4 yrs now and im in the market for a new 5, ive kinda narrowed it down to the Kingston 5, Spector NS2000/Q5 or the Lakland Skyline 55-01, just wondering what you might think of these, i play all kinds of music, mostly hard rock.

  2. I'd say go for the Spector.. it has a very versatile tone, and it looks very horny :)

But ofcourse.. you cannot decide untill you've tried them all

  3. I'd agree with Allodo. I have just bought a Spector REX2000/5 - which is made in Korea like the NS2000/Q5. The sound is fantastic, the feel and playability is really good and the finish is good.

The only thing I did notice are some marks/dings in the finish if you hold the bass at the 'right angle' to see it. I've been told by a tech that it's to do with the polishing technique used to finsih the guitar. This was the only thing I noticed that was below the level I expected (but that is comparing it to my Czech Spector!). All in all a really good bass.

Couldn't comment on the Kingston or the Lakland really, but like you our band plays mostly hard rock, and everyone in the band is impressed by the sound from my new Spector.

Have fun trying them, let us know what you get!!!

  4. isn't there a massive price differemce between the the kingston & spector - and the lakland?

    I thought lakland were super-bucks?

  7. I didn't even know Spector made basses in China!!!! Actually my comment is based on the assumption that all of the professional series basses are made in the same factory - the headstock on mine says 'Korea'.

You guys could be right!!! I suppose I should never assume - it could make an ASS of U and ME (it's an old one but I don't get to use it that often!)

Try the Kingston 5 out.. i hear they are fantastic basses for the $

  10. I'd say go for the Kingston. If you were in the market for a 4 string, I would say get the Spector.

  11. Ive been hearing alot of good things about the Kingstons, so much that I decided to pick one up as a backup.

Perhaps you've mixed it up with the 2002B, which is made in China. From what I've read, the 2000 and the 2000Q are made in South Corea.

Well, obviously it's best if you can play all three. There are some specs that may make the difference even before you've played them, though.

For instance, if you prefer narrow string spacing, or really like neck-throughs, the Spector would be the one.
OTOH, if you liker wider spacing, and are comfortable with a 35" scale, or if you want an optional maple board, the MTD (or the Skyline, if you're willing to wait) would be the way to go.
