And the blue metal flake G&L saga concludes! Here's the JB-2 bass that Ben actually ordered, instead of the previous blue metal flake JB SNAFU (which PoachDog jumped on for his frankenbass project)...

Weight was a big concern for Ben, and this one came in at 8.8 lbs (which is pretty good for a G&L). Lots of makers won't work with dealers/customers on weight concerns ("it is what it is" is their common refrain), but G&L does. Kudos to them.

I hope Ben enjoys it, and I certainly appreciate his patience. It's no fun for anyone involved when a special order bass comes in wrong after 3-4 months of waiting, but Ben was straight up super about it. And G&L put some serious hustle into getting attempt #2 turned around ASAP.

All's well that ends well! Onto the bass porn...

Yeah, boy! I think my recent White Balance setting adjustment is really making the colors jump even more (on top of helping my whites look white).

Yippeeeee! Guitar & bass sales, here we come :)

Greg, I hate (not really) to put you on the spot. . . but can you confirm that the PoachDog's bass is also 8.8 lbs since it was built per Ben's specs?

BKing, it must be rotten having a custom bass built to stand out and then some yo yo just down the street snags the almost identical bass. Hey, what strap are you using these days? :ninja:

Can we get some side by side photos of the Gekyll & Lyde twins before they go home? I know one of them is sticking around your shop for a little while longer. . . :smug:

Sorry, dude, the JB weighs in at 10.0 lbs... there's quite a bit more wood in the JB body. So I'd still say it's light for a JB, but 10.0 would be average for a JB-2.

Oh, and Ben's bass has already left the building, so you guys will have to hook up down there in NC for the family reunion photo... sorry!

Adam is so freakin' handy - why wait to have the basses in the same room when you have PhotoShop? Thanks, Adam!

Someone in Washington should be alerted to the existence of these two basses. I'm sure some intrepid scientist could break our dependence on foreign oil by harnessing the sparkly energy of these two basses...

  9. Where my shades at? :D Man, those two instruments together are way cool. Perfect side-by-each for comparing the look of bridges, pick guards, and control plates. Nice!

Now that I can look at them side by side, I can see where there is more wood around the horns and also underneath where my JB has got a pregnant belly.

Also, BKing's JB-2 has got some of the wood routed out of the body for his pre cavity, which makes his bass lighter.

All in all, I'm having trouble deciding which one I like better between the two. I think nearly everyone could appreciate the G&L pups/pre combo or the Barden/J-Retro combo. :bassist:

All these basses need is a matching Kustom bass rig, the kind with the puffy, sparkly blue vinyl covering... I tried to find a pic, but no dice. I'm sure you now what I mean. Think Murph And The Magic Tones, only in puffy blue vinyl...

Poach, Data! Go poach, boy!! Gooooood boy!!

  12. Yeah, baby! I played through one of those rigs when I first started...they looked THIS cool, and were very effective at stopping the hearts of any humans in their path. :D Awesome trip down memory lane! Paired with one of these basses, a brother would instantly have superpowers.

I just love how EVERYTHING on that stage (wasn't it a Ramada Inn lounge?) gets the orange treatment. Bass, drums, guitar, keys, shag carpet, even the jackets... some artistic director was working overtime when that scene was drawn up. Absolutely hideous. I LOVE it!

Those sparkly blue basses would look absolutely killer under stage lights.

My vote goes to Poacher's JB, now if it only had block inlay on the neck I think I would take one.

Now Crash, it's not a competition. But if it were I appreciate your vote. I think Ben's is the nicer G&L. He loves the tone as is and I can really respect that. I'm a mess, on the other hand. I'm changing a lot about that bass. Guess I like to reinvent the wheel? :D

No doubt Ben has a nice bass, I have seen his taste in bass before. I just happen to like the sparkle pickgard as well.

Don't hack it up too much since it may come my way when you are finished playing.
