According to Hurst, Daxun is releasing a CD with suites 1, 5, and 6 on it. I'm pretty excited about it after hearing this clip on youtube which must be from the CD:

The man is incredible. Just wanted to share that music.

Very nice, except I'm not much of a fan of all the vibrato...

There's also a video of him playing the Dvorak Cello Concerto on bass. How humbling!

Just wanted to add that I am not 100% sure that the track from youtube is actually from the CD, but it would make sense. And either way, it's probably a good indicator of what's to come!

    :eyebrow:

i for one loved that performance.

he certainly was not at all over-embelishing his vibrato. what about it did you not like? too much? not enough?

i'm interested where that came from, is all. to me it sounded rather nice.

calm down, I never said I was an expert or could play it better or anything, I just thought that there were some spots where he used it where I would have liked it better without. Also, note that the very first thing I said about the performance was "very nice."

Yes, he's on the faculty at UT right now. But I would imagine that he spends a lot of time touring and performing.

Thank you, I have seen this video.

To clarify for everyone: Yes, i think both DaXun and Rabbath are incredible players and I do enjoy both their performances of Bach. However, I am just more drawn to more baroque performances of baroque music than I am to modern interpretations.

Yes, I am only a student, and I don't claim to be an expert on any of this, nor do I intend to come off as knowing more than I do. All I did was say what I liked and didn't like about the performance - just an opinion as a listener, not a critique as a bassist.

I listened to the Bach recording yesterday all the way through, and it's some really fine playing. I'm enjoying the raising of the ceiling for DB performances of the suites - he's really done something special with these recordings IMO.
