I'm going with 1 of these 2 tops for my new Commissioned build through Devon Smullen. The neck will be 3 piece Maple and Ebony top with Abalone Circle inlays. Body will eith be Alder or Ash and I'm thinking of Bartolini Quad Coils with Coil tap and Bartolini Preamp.
I'm feeling the burl. Looks like a super sharp super clean example. The redwood is nice, but the nice blond middle part is gonna get covered.
They're both stunning, and I went with the Cocobolo, but not by much. Really they're both beautiful, maybe you do need two basses like Reedt2000 said.
If you go cocobolo will the pickups have matching covers with that dramatic sap wood stripe on em? Cause that would swing my vote
Devon said he wouldn’t be able to match the Cocobolo and Sapwood on the covers. Would be Cocobolo only if I went that route.
I like the Cocobolo best for looks but the color is close to my newly acquired Devon bass. Thinking of the Buckeye Burl just because it would be totally different I’m looks and color.
I was just about to say that - the Cocobolo is really nice, but color-wise it would be too close to your last bass. Go Buckeye Burl.
